St. Petersburg meeting unfavorable for Azerbaijan- says ARF Bureau member

YEREVAN, JUNE 27, ARMENPRESS. Bureau member of Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF), head of ARF parliamentary faction Armen Rustamyan thinks that Ilham Aliyev’s recent announcement over Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement do not express the reality, but Aliyev’s desires, Rustamyan told the reporters at the National Assembly, adding that if the parties had reached an agreement over the conflict settlement, about what Azerbaijan announces, it would have been published.

“From this it can be assumed that the talks were unfavorable for Mr. Aliyev. It is expressed in a number of his announcements bypassing the proposal of creating confidence-building mechanisms which is of key importance in terms of avoiding unaddressed statements. From this it can be assumed that the creation of confidence-building mechanisms is not in Azerbaijan’s interests as it plans to continue violating the ceasefire regime and does not want them to be recorded by international institutions”, “Armenpress” reports Rustamyan mentioning.

According to the MP, Azerbaijan has not realized yet that without recognizing the independence of Nagorno Karabakh there can be no talks of concessions. “This is not the first time we witness Azerbaijan saying something around the negotiation table, and doing the opposite afterwards, trying to restore its previous position. I have no doubts that the recent announcements of the Azerbaijani president are meant for the domestic public. There are two Aliyevs: one is Aliyev around the negotiation table and the other is the sultan enjoying gas revenues speaking from Baku. There are entirely different Aliyevs. I have mentioned many times that a real progress in the negotiations can be achieved only when Azerbaijan becomes a really negotiable party, when it realizes that the key factor is the recognition of Nagorno Karabakh independence, after which progress can be possible”, Rustamyan stated.
