“The Other Side of Home” –Movie about inner Genocide Survivor and Genocide denier struggle of
Turkish woman

YEREVAN, JULY 12, ARMENPRESS. The Genocide did not end in 1918, it is continuing generations after generations, said Nare Mkrtchyan, director of the “The Other Side of Home” movie, which is presented at the feature film competition of “Golden Apricot” international film festival.

The movie tells the story of the Turkish woman, who in 2015, learns about her grandmother being a Genocide survivor, and decides to depart to Armenia to take part in the commemorative events of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. The Genocide Survivor and Genocide Denier are constantly struggling inside of her.

“My grandmother and grandfather survived the Genocide, and this is very close to my heart. Although I live in Los Angeles, by all means I wanted to make a movie ahead of the 100th anniversary of the Genocide. I tried to find someone Turkish, tell his story, who turns out has Armenian blood. That inner struggle was interesting for me. I think this is because there are two stories in my own family – Turks saved my grandmother, but killed the entire family of my grandmother. This is the conflict of the good and bad Turk”, Nare Mkrtchyan said.

According to her, the important thing is to establish human dialogue between the two nations.

Director Nare Mkrtchyan was born in Yerevan, and relocated to Los Angeles 15 years ago. She studied in the prestigious USC School of Cinematic Arts, and made more than 60 short films during that time.
