Armenian Ombudsman to appeal to European institutions over Azerbaijani shooting at Armenian
village

YEREVAN, JULY 22, ARMENPRESS. Human Rights Defender of Armenia Arman Tatoyan will appeal to the Council of Europe and the UN Human Rights Commissioners, the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child, as well as the European Network of Ombudspersons for Children over the Azerbaijani firing towards Movses village of Tavush province, the Ombudsman’s office informed “Armenpress”.

On July 20, 2016 at 17:10 the Azerbaijani armed forces fired from large caliber weapons at Movses village of Tavush province. The Azerbaijanis opened fire at the 15-20 year old children playing in the stadium located near the village’s school. We were informed about this by the Movses community head, as well as this information has been spread by media.

The Azerbaijani armed forces’ such planned criminal harassment is a gross violation of the international norms, as well as the international humanitarian law. This is a violation of the international obligations of Azerbaijan. Each child is subject to special protection from shooting or any other harassment. This demand is subject to strict maintenance in terms of the protection of the civilian settlements, and the schools.

The data of the Azerbaijani armed forces’ such aggressive actions, together with taking appropriate measures with a concrete proposal on excluding such incidents will be submitted to the Council of Europe and the UN Human Rights Commissioners, the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child, as well as the European Network of Ombudspersons for Children.
