Nine under intensive care following overnight events

YEREVAN, JULY 30, ARMENPRESS. The overnight July 29-30 incident in Khorenatsi Street and Sari Tagh left 25 citizens hospitalized in Yerevan. 13 of them are hospitalized in “St. Gregory the Illuminator” medical center.

During a briefing, Vachagan Ayvazyan – Director of the Traumatology Center of the medical center said 15 citizens will be discharged this night or tomorrow afternoon.

“Currently 9 are under intensive care, 2 of them in Erebuni medical center, and 7 in “St. Gregory the Illuminator””, he said.

According to him, the most seriously injured is the police officer, who is currently in Erebuni Medical Center. The officer sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Ayvazyan says after recovery the officer will have to receive a long lasting treatment and serious surgeries.

The other wounded is the gunman, who had a wound to the leg. He underwent surgery and is currently in stable condition.

On July 29, demonstrators who were proceeding from Freedom Square towards Khorenatsi Street have surprisingly changed the direction of the rally and began moving towards Sari Tagh.

When a separate group of the rally attempted to cross the police line and breach the police cordons, Police took special measures. A clash occurred, which resulted in reporters being injured as well, according to preliminary data – hardware was damaged also.

Police have warned multiple times about the illegal nature of the rally and urged demonstrators in Khorenatsi Street and Sari Tagh to leave the area, and then Police dispersed the rally.

Police cordons started moving towards the demonstrators, flashbangs were used and many were detained.

73 people sought medical treatment during the night.
