Ceasefire preservation key ingredient for peace talks – EU Special Representative

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 21, ARMENPRESS. The EU and other international organizations are hopeful that the ceasefire on Karabakh-Azerbaijan contact line will be preserved after the April escalation, EU Special Representative Herbert Salber told the reporters after meeting with Foreign Minister of Artsakh (Nagorno Karabakh) Karen Mirzoyan.

“Unfortunately, the ceasefire was grossly violated and I think it will be possible to prevent the possibility of recurrence of the April incidents, since ceasefire preservation is a key ingredient for the peace talks. I hope the April incidents will not be repeated”, “Armenpress” reports Herbert Salber saying.

As refers to the recent attempt of a subversive action on Karabakh-Azerbaijan contact line by the Azerbaijani forces, Herbert Salber mentioned that he has been informed about it from some sources, but it is necessary to have more information for expressing a position.

Referring to his meeting with the Foreign Minister of Artsakh Karen Mirzoyan, Herbert Salber noted that they discussed various regional issues, the proposals on the table over the conflict settlement, and exchanged ideas over a number of other issues. The reporters inquired why the meeting did not take place in Artsakh.

“I do not forget about the program to visit Nagorno Karabakh. It is, of course, my desire. The only point is that I, as an EU Special Representative, must have a precise understanding of all the sides involved”, Herbert Salber said.
