Istanbul Armenian photographer familiarizes Armenian society with Armenians living in Turkey

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 24, ARMENPRESS. At the initiative of the Ministry of Diaspora of Armenia the opening ceremony of the exhibition of Istanbul-Armenian photographer Nuran Akkaya entitled “Armenians in Turkey” took place at Arno Babajanyan Concert Hall in Yerevan.

Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan attended the event; “Armenpress” was informed from the press service of the Ministry.

Greeting the photographer and other compatriots from Istanbul, Minister Hakobyan said that the 60 photos exhibited tell about Armenians living in our historical land and Istanbul, as well as Armenian cultural heritage. “Nuran is in Armenia for the first time thank to the presentation of his book and the opening of his exhibition. I am convinced from now on he will visit the Motherland more frequently bringing with him his artist friends. We must do our best to make our talented compatriots in Istanbul more popular in Armenia”, she said.

Hranush Hakoyan awarded Nuran Akkaya with ministerial certificate for his contribution to the preservation of the Armenian identity in Istanbul.

Afterwards, a number of intellectuals addressed words of gratitude to the photographer.

At the end of the event the author of the exhibition also made some remarks. “I am extremely happy for my first exhibition opened in Armenia. I am thankful to the Ministry of Diaspora for bringing my dream into life. I try to familiarize the Armenian society with our talented by hidden Armenians living in the territory of Turkey through my exhibitions and photo portraits. I am convinced similar events can serve as a bridge between the two Armenian separated segments”, Nuran Akkaya said.

The exhibition will be available until November 27.
