Armenian-American organizations ready to work with Trump administration

YEREVAN, JANUARY 20, ARMENPRESS. Armenian-American organizations are preparing to work with the US administration.

Bryan Ardouny,  Executive Director of the Armenian Assembly of America (AAA) said they will continue their works around foreign policy issues with the foreign relations commissions of the newly elected Congress, as well as the newly appointed Secretary of State and administration, confident their voice will be heard, Voice of America reported.

“The Armenian-American community is a rather wide circle, we have Armenian-American organizations and individuals who endorsed Trump. Now, everyone must unite in order to make our voice heard in the capital. We want the administration to hold Azerbaijan accountable for the killings on innocent people in Nagorno Karabakh and Armenia. We expect the administration to get actively involved in stopping ceasefire violations”, Ardouny said.

According to Aram Hambaryan, executive director of ANCA Washington, some approached must be continued, however there are political approaches which must be changed.

“We are willing to cooperate with the Trump administration in the framework of those issues. We haven’t supported any of the Presidential candidates, we think none of them deserved our endorsement, however numerous Armenians were active in both Clinton’s and Trump’s campaigns, and we are ready to work with everybody. The Trump administration is going to differ from the previous one and will fundamentally change the traditional American politics. We hope that change will positively impact the issues of recognition of the Armenian Genocide and Nagorno Karabakh”, Hambarian said.

Summing up the activities of the Obama administration, Armenian-American organizations agree that there is disappointment especially in the Armenian Genocide issue. They mention initially the Obama administration was encouraging and promising, however his promises on Armenian Genocide and Nagorno Karabakh remained undone.

Donald Trump will be inaugurated as President of the USA on January 20.
