Armenian Ambassador reminds of anniversary of Hrant Dink’s murder at OSCE Permanent Council session

Armenian Ambassador reminds of anniversary of Hrant Dink’s murder at OSCE Permanent Council
session

YEREVAN, JANUARY 20, ARMENPRESS.  Head of Armenian Mission to the OSCE, Ambassador Arman Kirakosyan issued a statement during the 1128 session of OSCE Permanent Council dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the murder of the editor-in-chief of “Agos” periodical, prominent journalist and intellectual Hrant Dink.

As “Armenpress” was informed from the press service of MFA Armenia, the Ambassador stated that the Armenian mission has raised that issue for years, whereas the Turkish mission has always responded that it is necessary to wait for the results of the investigation.

The Ambassador also expressed conviction that the failure to reveal the murders of community heads and intellectuals, as well as violence against them creates an atmosphere of impunity, encouraging intolerance.

He reminded that persecution against Hrant Dink was conditioned by his approaches and announcements over the Armenian Genocide. “Unfortunately, 10 years after Dink’s murder the same policy of silencing those striving for truth and justice goes on in Turkey. The ban on MP Garo Paylan’s attendance to the Turkish parliament sessions is an evidence of my words. There is even some information that some political parties try to file a criminal case against him, assessing his words about the Armenian Genocide as demonstration of xenophobia”, the Ambassador said.

Arman Kirakosyan stated that Turkey displays itself at the OSCE as an advocate for tolerance towards religious groups and elimination of discrimination, at the same time showing no tolerance towards indigenous religious minorities some segments of which have been able to survive and exist in modern Turkey.

In the context of protecting the rights of religious minorities Ambassador Kirakosyan reminded the Turkish delegation that it is already a year that the Armenian side is waiting for clarifications from the Turkish side over the confiscation of  St. Giragos Armenian  Church and its surrounding area in Diyarbakir.
