Nuclear Power Plant all OK – assures deputy minister

YEREVAN, JANUARY 23, ARMENPRESS. There are no problems with Armenia’s Nuclear Power Plant, citizens have no reason to be alarmed, Hayk Harutyunyan, deputy minister of energy infrastructures and natural resources told a press conference in ARMENPRESS, commenting on the recent initiation of the 110kV first network differential protection.

“That wasn’t a problem of the nuclear plant. It was actually an ordinary problem of the high-voltage electricity network lines. It happened due to ice accumulation. This case shows that the protection systems of the nuclear plant are working perfectly. The problem was eliminated in a short period of time, there was no problem in the systems. I would like to once again emphasize that this wasn’t a problem of the nuclear plant”, Harutyunyan said.

The deputy minister stressed that the nuclear power plant is operating perfectly. The technical equipment is on a high level.

The 110kV first line differential protection system of the nuclear power plant was initiated on January 21 due to a power outage in high-voltage (110kV) electricity lines.  The problem has been fully eliminated and the nuclear power plant is operating normally.
