YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 23, ARMENPRESS. Galust Sahakyan, Speaker of Armenia’s Parliament, held a meeting on February 23 with the observer delegation of PACE, who visited Armenia for monitoring the pre-election phase of the upcoming parliamentary election, the Parliament’s Press Service told ARMENPRESS.

Sahakyan highlighted the delegation’s visit – on the eve of the upcoming April2 important event. Sahakyan assured that the upcoming parliamentary election will be free, fair, transparent and in line with in democratic standards. Sahakyan highlighted the accurate assessments on the election process by the observers.

Speaking on the constitutional reforms in Armenia, Sahakyan said that since 1995 Armenian authorities have always cooperated with PACE when making legislative changes. Sahakyan also touched upon the Electoral Code, mentioning it was widely discussed in the 4+4+4 format, which was equally taken part by representatives of the leadership, the opposition and civil society.

Liliane Maury Pasquier, head of the PACE observer delegation, thanked Sahakyan for the warm reception and said they already have the necessity information about the upcoming election as result of meetings which they had during these days. According to her, the upcoming election is a serious challenger for the Armenian authorities, in order to raise public trust for election processes.

Other issues were discussed during the meeting as well.
