Establishment of Armenian Consulate in Iraq is important in terms of regional cooperation – says 
expert on Arabic studies

YEREVAN, MARCH 18, ARMENPRESS. The establishment of Armenian Consulate General in Iraq’s Erbil is very important for Armenia from the perspective of regional cooperation, Sargis Grigoryan – expert on Arabic studies, Researcher at the Department of Armenian-Kurdish Relations in YSU Institute of Armenian Studies, told reporters on March 18, reports “Armenpress”.

“Armenia’s direct presence at Consulate level in Iraq will contribute to the development of Armenian-Iraqi relations which is quite important for Armenia. Of course, Iraq faces social-economic problems, however, it’s regional role is not decreasing”, the expert said.

President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan signed a decree on March 13 on establishing an Armenian Consulate General in Iraq’s Erbil. The Consulate General’s consulate district will encompass the Kurdistan region (Erbil, Dohuk, Sulaymaniyah).
