Defense minister hopes to remain in office after parliamentary election

YEREVAN, MARCH 30, ARMENPRESS. Defense minister of Armenia Vigen Sargsyan hopes to remain in office after the parliamentary election.

In an interview to Russian media representatives Sargsyan expressed hope in case of the Republican Party winning the upcoming election his colleagues will give him the opportunity to continue his work as defense minister.

“I attach great importance to this sector in our administration system, taking into account the existing threats and challenges. I see a big field of work in this sector and I hope I will have time to make reforms in the defense field, which in my opinion is a challenge of time”, Sargsyan said.

He underscored that there are many issues which require a complex solution.

“Taking into consideration the fact that the majority of Armenian citizens serving in the Armed Forces are serving under mandatory military service, I also find it to be important that the two years of military service be not only the years of giving the holy duty to the Fatherland, but also that our youth are enabled to receive addition education during those years, develop skills and knowledge and return to civilian life after service with firm knowledge and skills”, the minister said.

Sargsyan underscored they have lots to do in terms of continuing the works aimed at increasing the battle-worthiness of the Armenian Armed Forces.

“I see many things to do also in terms of increasing the efficiency of administration in the field. Therefore, I will be very happy if the results of the election give the chance to continue the work which we began six months ago and I am sure we are able to finish it”, he said.
