Her Royal Highness Princess of Jordan Dina Mired calls on Armenia to fight against smoking

YEREVAN, APRIL 28, ARMENPRESS. Her Royal Highness Princess of Jordan Dina Mired is impressed with Armenia’s beautiful places.

While in Armenia at the invitation of the Yerevan State Medical University (YSMU), Dina Mired visited Garni and Geghard.

Accompanied by YSMU Rector Armen Muradyan, HRH Princess of Jordan firstly visited Geghard monastery, then the temple of Garni, tasted Armenian lavash and cheese, listened to Armenian music. At the end of the day, she said it is indescribable how she is impressed from this visit.

Dina Mired is also the newly appointed Chairwoman of the Union of International Cancer Control. Although she positively assesses the level of fight against cancer in Armenia, but stated that works still need to be done.

“I must say that there is a really well educated medical staff, the facilities, but we are here to assist Armenia to move forward in the field, and here that base exists. We will, of course, continue our cooperation, however, there is a question over which I and the YSMU Rector agree: Armenia must fight against cigarettes. The tobacco industry that receives money at the expense of people’s health, develops many bad ways through which it increases the number of consumers as much as possible. They target youth, make them as lifelong tobacco users. Our country as well still has to carry out works on this path, otherwise, no any healthcare ministry will be able to fight against the diseases caused by cigarettes in the future”, Dina Mired told Armenpress, proposing to develop tobacco preventive measures.

Dina Mired is also a mother of a child who overcame cancer: her son fought against this disease. By visiting hospitals, centers for cancer prevention in Armenia, meeting with parents and supporting them, the Princess of Jordan said the most important thing is the right attitude on the situation.

“Of course, it s very difficult, especially in the first 6 months, however, the most important thing is to understand and perceive that this is not the end. Relatives, friends, public in general play a key role in understanding this. New types of treatment are yet to come, it is just necessary to resist and remember that there is always a light at the end of a tunnel”, she said.

Talking about Armenia-Jordan relations, Dina Mired said the Armenians of Jordan are a part of the country’s culture, she is proud and happy that there is such an Armenian community in her country.

“Armenia and Jordan are friendly countries. We have a wonderful Armenian community that already lives there for over 100 years, and I have Armenian friends, there is an Armenian restaurant in Jordan that serves fantastic Armenian dishes, we also have experienced Armenian jewelers. I just could not miss this chance to visit Armenia”, Dina Mired said.
