YEREVAN, JANUARY 17, ARMENPRESS. Following the liberation of Syria’s Aleppo, a city with major Armenian population, the Syrian-Armenians who have found shelter in Armenia do not wish to return to Aleppo, “Armenpress” reports Head of Staff of Diaspora Ministry of Armenia Firdus Zakaryan told.

According to him Aleppo-Armenians regularly visit Aleppo to obtain information on their possessions, but they return to Armenia. “At the moment over 20 thousand Syrian-Armenians live in Armenia. As a rule, this number does not go down, but vice the versa”, Zakaryan said, adding that Aleppo-Armenians are waiting for a final solution to the problem. “What is going on in Aleppo does not yet give ground to Aleppo-Armenians to take a decision of leaving Armenia”, he said.

Speaking about the problems facing the Syrian-Armenians in Armenia, the Head of the Ministry Staff pointed out two main issues: employment and shelter. “We solve the housing issue of the Syrian-Armenians by subsidizing the house rents. 1000 Syrian-Armenian families are included in this program annually”, Firdus Zakaryan said.

Syrian governmental forces announced on December 22 that Aleppo is in their full control.
