Armenia treats negatively the latest developments around Lachin corridor – Speaker of
Parliament

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 7, ARMENPRESS. Armenia is treating negatively the latest developments around the Lachin corridor, Speaker of Parliament Alen Simonyan told reporters at a briefing, when asked what is Armenia’s reaction to the deployment of mini checkpoints in the Lachin corridor by the Russian peacekeepers and to the latest incidents that happened in the Lachin corridor.

“Armenia is treating it negatively. Let’s not forget that the Lachin corridor is under the control of the Russian peacekeepers and is a responsibility zone. Works are being done on this direction, because, as I said, it is the responsibility zone of the Russian peacekeepers”, the Speaker said.

On December 3, a group of Azerbaijanis in civilian clothes closed the Stepanakert-Goris highway with environmental pretext at the intersection of Shushi-Karin Tak. Artsakh's information headquarters reported that it is obvious that with this, Azerbaijan is resorting to provocation in order to interrupt the land connection between Armenia and Artsakh and subject the civilian population to psychological terror. The command staff of the Russian peacekeeping contingent stationed in Artsakh was holding negotiations with the Azerbaijani side for the unblocking of the Stepanakert-Goris highway. The negotiations with the Azerbaijani side, which lasted more than three hours, gave a positive result. The only road connecting Artsakh to Armenia was bi-directionally opened. Later the commander of the Russian peacekeeping forces in Artsakh Andrey Volkov said that they are planning to set up a “mini customs checkpoint” on the corridor.
