World Cup 2022: Argentina beat Netherlands in penalty shootout

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 10, ARMENPRESS. Argentina scored a nerve-shredding penalty shootout victory over the Netherlands at the FIFA World Cup 2022 quarterfinal in Qatar.

Leading 2-0 with just eight minutes remaining thanks to goals from Nahuel Molina and Messi, the Netherlands made a stunning equalizer with two goals by Wout Weghorst (83’ and 90+11’).

Neither side was able to find the winner in the extra minutes and the match was decided on penalties. Argentina goalkeeper Emi Martinez made himself a heroby saving two Dutch kicks.

After Enzo Fernandez missed the first penalty that would have given Argentina victory, Lautaro Martinez scored the winner.

Argentina will face Croatia in the semi-finals after their shock shootout victory over Brazil.
