Turkey-Syria earthquake: Death toll in Armenian communities stands at 13

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 13, ARMENPRESS. 13 ethnic Armenians died in Turkey and Syria in the February 6 earthquake according to latest information, Hovhannes Aleksanyan, the Head of the Strategy Development Department at the Office of the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs said at a press conference.

“In the first days we were receiving information through various channels and it was difficult to report accurate information. Now we can say that we have two victims in Aleppo – Mirna Minasyan-Tenekjian, Alper Tenekjian. In Turkey, Sami, Aida and Alex Tabash, Mariam Karatash, Dshkhun Mesropyan/Balikyan, Armik Mesropyan, Mesrop Mesropyan, Paytsar Silahlin, Antoine Horoz, Zilan Tigris, Yohannes Karolina Kap were killed,” Aleksanyan said.

There are injured persons among the Armenian community as well. Some underwent surgery and are receiving treatment, while others suffered minor injuries. Armenian institutions also suffered damages, especially in Syria. The damages are now being evaluated.
