2500 vacancies present in Armenia’s IT sector

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 15, ARMENPRESS. Experts say the main issue for rapid development of Armenia’s IT sector is lack of human resources.

Deputy Director of the “Union of IT enterprises” Hayk Chobanyan told ARMENPRESS today there are 2500 vacancies in Armenia’s IT sector. The yearly number of graduates for the IT sector is 1800.

“Although there are this many graduates, not all of them meet the market’s demands. One can say only the half meets the demands. Therefore, our main efforts are directed towards education. A new process has begun, we hold corresponding classes in schools and educational programs have been formed for undergraduate institutions. It’s called short-term BA”, Chobanyan says, highlighting also online education.

In his words, the students’ internship is very important, which often is carried out not on a high level. According to him, often internships are just a formality, although it must be a priority.

According to Hovik Musayelyan – director of “Synopsys”, it is very important to carry out works in all circles in order to raise the level of education. “It is important that our talented youngsters in schools have a clear perception in choosing their profession”, he says.

“It is important for us that universities receive qualified “raw resources” from schools, so that these young people are in demand after graduations. Experience shows that 7-8 percent of university graduates find jobs. In this case it is very important to elaborate the concept of having a technology university, based on Polytechnic’s foundation”, he said.
