Noah ethnographic district may become Armenia’s tourism hotspot

YEREVAN, MARCH 10, ARMENPRESS. The construction investment program and international cooperation department of the state committee for urban development designed and presented a construction investment program for the "Noah" ethnographic district.

Architect Artavazd Tarkhanyan presented the project to ARMENPRESS.

“It will be located in the surrounding area of Dalma Garden Mall and the Dalma gardens. It is a very unique slope, where a view towards Mount Ararat and the Yerevan Lake opens. This created the link between the Biblical legend and the district”, Tarkhanyan said.

The architect said the district will include 2 and 3 storey buildings, having different architectural styles – from Western and Eastern Armenia.

“The planning of a district from Ani city, known to us from the Middle Ages, is the basis for the district’s layout”, he said.

Speaking on the distance of the district from downtown Yerevan, he said: “It is located 10 minutes of driving time away from the Republic Square and Zvartnots Airport. It is accessible for the movement of different tourist flows”.

According to Tarkhanyan new streets will also be built leading to the district.

“For example, the road leading to the parking lot of Dalma Garden Mall is planned to be extended towards the district. The district itself will have a parking lot for more than 750 cars”, he said.

"Noah" ethnographic district investment project intended to develop a 9.2- hectare land plot situated near the Dalma gardens, in the geographical center of Yerevan. It is planned to implement a new system of pedestrian streets, which will give an opportunity to locate their various social and cultural groups of an artist like carpet weaving, handicrafts, painting and also manuscripts exhibitions, museums hotels, residential, ethnic foods vendors and more. The biblical tale of Noah and such unique district will play a major role in the development of cultural tourism. The District is planned to build up with typical, cozy streets with the view to Mount Ararat and with the 2 to 3-floor buildings designed in the national folk style. Total construction area of this project budget is about 98,500,000 USD. Taking into account that current investment is taking place under the patronage of government of the republic of Armenia, investors will receive unique benefits during project realization. These benefits will be tangible during architectural project approval and construction permission process.
