Monuments, monasteries, ecotourism: Artsakh diversifies tourism result

YEREVAN, MARCH 28, ARMENPRESS. Artsakh diversifies tourism result: in addition to developing religious direction, a process on presenting historical-cultural places as a tourism result is promoted.

Inna Simonyan – Tourism Department Project Manager at the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Artsakh, told “Armenpress” in recent years the works carried out in this path give their result. Today there is a large tourism flow in a number of historical-cultural places.

“Every well-known historical-cultural place, be it Gandzasar, Tigranakert, Amaras, host a large number of tourists within the year. If 5 years before we had mainly religious monuments where tourists visited, those were churches, monasteries, today the tourism result in Artsakh is quite diversified. Faborable conditions exist in Tigranakert national historical-cultural reserve, Hunot gorge and other places, there are respective infrastructures, renovation works are carried out which contributes to tourist visits”, she said.

This year significant works are planned for presenting the historical-cultural places as a separate result in tourism field. Programs will be implemented aimed at developing infrastructures in certain historical-cultural places. Those programs have already been improved by the Artsakh Government.

Cleaning operations of monuments, renovations and improvements of historical-cultural places will be held. Inna Simonyan informed that the conservation works of Askeran fortress are already launched.

In addition to state programs, significant works will be carried out with the private sector.

In 2016 in the monument renovation sphere works were done in the Melik’s Palace in Togh village and Askeran fortress.

By the mediation of Artsakh Diocese of Armenian Apostolic Church and funds provided by philanthropists, 2 out of 4 chapels in Dadivank were restored, and the renovation works of the remaining chapels continue and will be completed in 2017.

Inna Simonyan said the issue of ecotourism is under their spotlight. For that purpose the cooperation with IDeA Foundation will continue. There is a task to ensure favorable conditions for investors.
