YEREVAN, MARCH 30, ARMENPRESS. The arms balance between Armenia and Azerbaijan is violated, however, the balance of power is maintained since the Armenian Army has several advantages over the Azerbaijani armed forces, Defense Minister Vigen Sargsyan told Russian reporters, reports Armenpress.

“If we speak about the arms balance, it is violated. The balance is violated since for a long period of time Azerbaijan spent huge budget resources for acquiring weapons from different countries. This process, of course, resulted in a serious violation of arms balance in the region. But if speak about the balance of power, I think we can agree with assessments of international experts who say the balance is maintained since the Armenian Armed forces have several advantages which enable to neutralize the violations of arms balance. I think we must carry out intensive work so that the arms balance is restored as well”, the Defense Minister said.

Commenting on the issue of equipping the Armenian Armed forces and acquiring new arms, the Minister said it is a constant process. “We constantly hold dialogue not only with Russia, but also with a number of other partners over modernization of Armenian Armed forces. We buy different weapons based on our armed forces development plan”, he said.

The Minister added that in case of having an opportunity the armament of Armenian Armed forces is displayed during military parades or special tours for journalists. “We are interested in acquiring such equipment which will enable to balance the arms and prevent Azerbaijan’s violation of a whole series of arms”, Vigen Sargsyan said.
