Armenian doctors treat skull base giant cell tumor in 14 year old with miraculous non-surgical
method

YEREVAN, MARCH 30, ARMENPRESS. Doctors were able to save the life of a child suffering from skull base giant cell tumor of bone in Armenia without surgical intervention, but with medication.

Gevorg Tamamyan, the child’s doctor, told ARMENPRESS this is the youngest case in international literature when a child suffering from skull base giant cell tumor of bone has received medication treatment.

The girl was admitted to the chemotherapy clinic of the Muratsan hospital of YSMU last year, she was in a critical condition, when surgical and radiology treatments were ineffective.

“This is a unique clinical case. The tumor was located in a way that it was impossible to remove it completely through surgery”, he said.

According to the doctor, a partial resection was made in Moscow. Afterwards the tumor began to grow.

“When the child was admitted to our clinic, she was in a critical condition, she was unable to eat, speak or walk, she had a squint. Recently cases were described in international literature, mainly among adults, when Denosumab gave promising results. And we decided to begin the treatment after having the parents’ permission, since otherwise we would lose the child. This was pretty risky for us also, because the dosage was rather high and we didn’t know what result we would get, however there was no other way out”, he said.

After the very first injection the 14 year old child’s condition began to improve, and after a few courses she was discharged from the hospital. Today the child has returned to her normal life and attends school.

The famous Italian magazine of Pediatrics published an article on the miraculous work of the Armenian doctors.
