The Armenian side is interested in the development path Turkey has adopted for its future, “Armenpress” reports Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Shavarsh Kocharyan said. He stated that for decades Atatürk’s pro-western ideology was the dominant political course of Turkey. This ideology, which was against the opinion and mentality of the majority of the Turkish public, aimed at guiding Turkey to Europe, something that was very beneficial for Armenia.

“If in reality Turkey became a European country by its value system, it would be very acceptable for us to have such a neighbor. But by coming Erdoğan’s party to power, this political course started to retreat and the best demonstration of that was the recent constitutional referendum in that country, by which a “huge stone” was put on Turkey’s path to Europe. And today we can record that, in fact, Turkey resembles Azerbaijan”, Kocharyan said.
