YEREVAN, MAY 15, ARMENPRESS. By the initiative of the Association of Armenian modern painters, ‘Present’ painting exhibition was opened in the UN Office in Armenia on the occasion of the International Day of Families, reports Armenpress.

The works of Armenian young modern painters were presented at the exhibition.

“The works of 18 painters are presented: each of them presented several paintings. As this is our first exhibition, all members of the Association are taking part. Majority of paintings are dedicated to the family and the current concerns of the painters”, exhibition organizer, painter Sergey Isaverdyan said.

He said the Association of Armenian modern painters is newly established. It aims at presenting the works of modern painters to the wide circles of the public.

“It is already 15 years I am engaged in professional painting, I am inspired by the positive events happening in life. I attach great importance to this exhibition because the family is the most important idea which has weakened in our days since many values are violated”, painter Vahe Apoyan said.

Painter Mariam Mughdusyan stated that in future exhibitions will be held in other places as well. “We plan to jointly present the works of painters sharing the same ideas, views at various exhibitions. The goal is to get acquainted with each other’s works and activity”, she said.

Some paintings are being sold. The exhibition will be open until May 30.

In 1993 the UN General Assembly called on the members states to celebrate May 15 as the International Day of Families every year. Currently the International Day of Families is celebrated in Slovakia, Lithuania, Latvia, Tajikistan, Belarus, Ukraine and several other countries. On February 9, 2011, Armenia’s Parliament adopted the law on making an amendment in the Law on “Holidays and Memorials Days of the Republic of Armenia”, by which May 15 was declared as Family Day.
