Corruption prevention agency to operate more effectively in anti-corruption fight

YEREVAN, MAY 25, ARMENPRESS. The establishment of corruption prevention agency will enable to more effectively fight against corruption on a daily regime, Deputy Minister of Justice Suren Krmoyan told Armenpress.

“Corruption prevention agency will be created on the basis of the commission of ethics of high ranking officials, which in fact is going to be unprecedented. It is a separate state agency which will deal with corruption prevention issues. The agency will have 5 members which will be appointed by the President until 2018, and then by the Parliament”, the Deputy Minister said.

Suren Krmoyan said the Whistleblower Protection Law will also serve as a corruption prevention tool, which was also approved by the Government. “This law will ensure protection of people who will report on the corruption case”, Suren Krmoyan said.

The Government approved the bill package on prevention of corruption on May 25. Arthur Hovhannisyan, acting Minister of Justice, said under the bill a corruption prevention agency will be created on the basis of the commission of ethics of high ranking officials, which will implement functions of corruption prevention, and deal with conflicting interests, ethics issues and other limitations for officials and public servants.
