Bavra customs checkpoint official, CEO of brokerage service arrested for bribery

YEREVAN, MAY 26, ARMENPRESS. Law enforcement agencies of Armenia have revealed a bribery scheme involving customs officials.

The Prosecutor General’s office told ARMENPRESS that directors and employees of several organizations, as well as individuals, have made arrangements with customs officials of the state revenue committee through several staff members of customs clearance broker services, and bribed the customs officials in order to clear their products from customs on much lower tariffs, and pay less than usual for exporting certain products.

Police launched criminal proceedings on bribery.

The special investigative service is probing the case.

Based on gathered evidence, law enforcement agencies arrested the director of a customs broker service company and the head of the Bavra checkpoint.
