Ombudsman receives reports on groundless detentions of citizens

YEREVAN, JULY 30, ARMENPRESS. Representatives of the Ombudsman’s Office are visiting police departments across the city from the early morning of July 30.

The Ombudsman’s Office told ARMENPRESS they have received reports on groundless detentions of citizens, as well as violence against citizens and violations of the right to make a phone call.

“There have also been reports on obstructing attorneys’ from entering police departments. Police don’t have the right to obstruct an attorney from entering a police station or a detention facility. This is a serious violation. Our visits’ first and foremost aim at ensuring the exercise of this right”, the Ombudsman’s statement reads.
