In Memoriam – Fallen hero Adam Sahakyan would be 20 years old today

YEREVAN, AUGUST 19, ARMENPRESS. Today is the birthday of hero soldier Adam Sahakyan. Already four months have passed since the four day war, days when Adam and his co-servicemen were defending the NKR Jabrayil military positions with their blood.

The entire Armenian nation was waiting for the return of Adam until the last second, who was listed as missing in action, and then, it became known that he heroically fell with his brothers in arms after engaging in a firefight with Azerbaijani forces, who heavily outnumbered them. The heroism of Adam and his co-servicemen inflicted significant losses to Azeri troops and thwarted their advancement.

“After being transferred to our battalion, we began talking to one another, gradually became closer, and became true friends. Then we began patrolling the military position together. As they say – everyone are friends in positions. And indeed, we also were friends, we were ready to do anything for one another. Adam was younger then me, but he was thinking like someone older. He was a leader by character. Wherever he was, there was harmony and warm atmosphere. One wanted to be at his side all the time. We served together for 8 months, until I was demobilized in January”, Adam’s co-serviceman and friend told ARMENPRESS. Artak says everyone was equal for the young Sergeant, if we saw that someone has an issue, he would immediately approach and offer help.

“Once an incident happened – during night shift we were at our positions, it was very dark, we couldn’t see anything, and the night was accompanied by heavy rain. Suddenly, mines began to explode. Adam was the first to take his weapon and immediately run towards trenches – thinking that the enemy is attacking. We ran after him. He told us to go back, that he will defend us. In general, Adam was very well trained, was smart. He could analyze step by step what’s gonna happen. Adam was a special person for me, he was ready to sacrifice himself for his friends, and that’s exactly what happened”, Artak said.

According to him, he and Adam maintained contact even after his demobilization. “The last time we spoke was the night of March 30th. He was a little concerned, he said he feels something bad is gonna happen. This was a terrible loss. I can’t express with words what I have seen and heard from him. He always repeated, whatever you achieve in life, never forget your limit”, Artak said.

Today hero Adam Sahakyan would have become 20 years old.

Eternal glory to you, modern hero.
