YEREVAN, JANUARY 14, ARMENPRESS. Lawmaker of Turkey’s Parliament, member of the People’s Democratic Party, Garo Paylan commented on his speech at the Turkish Parliament where he raised the issue of the Armenian Genocide during the discussions of constitutional changes, stating that by this he aimed to draw attention on the mistakes of the past, Paylan told Dihaber, reports “Armenpress”.

“Yesterday, when the constitutional changes were being discussed at the parliament, I wanted them to draw lessons from the past. A constitution was also formed 100 years before which didn’t take into account the peoples. During the First Word War, they have lost four peoples, Armenians, Assyrians, Greeks and Jews. I said if we repeat the same mistake, we will face the same painful events today”, Paylan said.

Speaking about his removal from three parliamentary sessions due to his statement, Paylan said: “This didn’t happen in the past. This is the first time in the parliament’s history. Unfortunately, the punish was applied”, he said. “This was a message that if after this we will not do what they say, they will silence our voices”. 

During the discussion of constitutional changes in Turkey’s Parliament, lawmaker, member of the People’s Democratic Party, Garo Paylan raised the issue of the Armenian Genocide. A decision was made to remove him from three sessions for his statement.
