YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 24, ARMENPRESS. This year Armenian International Airports CJSC plans to make 8 million USD investment in the civil aviation field, Sergey Avetisyan – Head of the General Department of Civil Aviation of Armenia, told “Armenpress”.

He said the investment will be mainly directed towards the development of infrastructures in “Zvartnots” and Gyumri’s “Shirak” airports.

“A number of equipment will be acquired, runway repair works will be carried out in “Zvartnots” airport”, Avetisyan said.

He stated that Gyumri’s “Shirak” airport will be the major spotlight since investments have not been made there for a long time. “It is planned to renovate the departure hall in “Shirak” airport, to replace the windows and increase the number of checkpoints, reaching them to 12 from 4”, Avetisyan said, adding that the works will launch from April, 2017.

Within the framework of Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan’s visit to Gyumri’s “Shirak” airport on February 3, Armenia International Airports have announced that they will carry out over 10 million USD investment program aimed at improving the infrastructures from which 3 million USD will be invested during this year. Works are being done on attracting new budgetary airlines, low service prices were set in Gyumri’s airport for this purpose, and some services are even offered free.

Gyumri’s “Shirak” airport has re-launched in 2016 after long pause.
