YEREVAN, APRIL 5, ARMENPRESS. According to preliminary reports, the terror attack in St. Petersburg metro was committed by Islamic State terrorist group, expert on Arabic studies Sargis Grigoryan told a press conference in Armenpress.

“Although no one has still assumed the responsibility for the attack, the signature is the same. Let’s leave aside the fact that this operation is being considered in the context of restraining the Russian internal developments, the signature of Islamic State is obvious and this time Russia was targeted”, he said.

On April 4 the IS spokesperson addressed a message calling on to carry out terror attacks in Europe, US, however, without mentioning about St. Petersburg. “The whole analysis shows that the terror threat is being further strengthened, it is impossible to control it, to prevent the actions of terrorists. We deal with a phenomenon which is unpredictable and becomes widespread”, Sargis Grigoryan said.

Whether Russia will take countermeasures is unclear yet, however, the expert said the fight against the IS in the Middle East will continue.

An unidentified device went off at about 14:40 Moscow time on April 3 in a subway train car when the train was moving from Tekhnologichesky Institute Station to Sennaya Ploshchad Station. More than 10 people were killed, several dozen were injured. The Russian Investigative Committee has qualified the blast as a terrorist attack, but other versions are looked into.
