Region cannot allow one more war, Iranian FM tells Azerbaijani counterpart

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 14, ARMENPRESS. Tehran continues closely following the developments taking place on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian said during today’s telephone conversation with his Azerbaijani counterpart Jeyhun Bayramov, stating that any change in the inter-state border between Armenia and Iran is unacceptable, Fars news agency reports.

“The border between Iran and Armenia must remain unchanged”, the Iranian FM said.

During the telephone talk the Iranian and Azerbaijani FMs exchanged views about the latest incidents in the South Caucasus. The Iranian FM expressed strong concerns over the outbreak of a new armed conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, stating that Iran is ready to assist in solving the disputes between Armenia and Azerbaijan through peaceful political means.

“We always attach a special importance to the preservation of territorial integrity of countries, including Azerbaijan and Armenia, and think that the border between Iran and Armenia is a historical path of communication which must be maintained without any changes”, the Iranian FM said.

He also stated that the region cannot allow one more war.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran calls on the sides to show restraint”, FM Hossein Amir Abdollahian said.
