YEREVAN, OCTOBER 18, ARMENPRESS. On October 18, the President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Alen Simonyan received the delegation led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Norway Anniken Huitfeldt, who is on an official visit to Armenia.

As ARMENPRESS was informed from the National Assembly of Armenia, the parties discussed issues of mutual interest. The conversation was mainly about Armenian democracy and the necessary conditions for its development. The President of the National Assembly presented information on the consequences of the latest manifestation of Azerbaijani aggression, noting that the withdrawal of the Azerbaijani armed forces from the territory of Armenia is a priority. Alen Simonyan expressed hope that Norway, as a leading country in the field of human rights protection, will be consistent in condemning the war crimes committed by the Azerbaijani armed forces, their fair trial and punishment of the culprits.

The importance of parliamentary diplomacy was also discussed at the meeting, thanks to which countries are able to raise issues that require quick solutions on political and international platforms.

"The Armenian side is interested in promoting the political dialogue with Norway. I consider the activation of inter-parliamentary relations as a priority. I am aware that there is no tradition of forming friendship groups in the Norwegian Parliament. However, I think that other formats of cooperation can be found," said Alen Simonyan. In response, the Foreign Minister of Norway added that it is possible to promote bilateral parliamentary cooperation mechanisms, cooperation in the parliamentary platforms of various international organizations, and to activate mutual visits.
