France raises terror threat level in the wake of Moscow attack

YEREVAN, MARCH 25, ARMENPRESS. France's Prime Minister Gabriel Attal has announced that following a meeting at the Elysee Palace in Paris on the evening March 24, France is raising its terror threat level in the wake of Friday's concert hall attack near Moscow.

“Following the attack in Moscow, the Defense and National Security Council was convened by the president at the Elysee Palace tonight. Taking into account the claims over the attack by Islamic State and the threat that faces our country, we have decided to increase our terror threat level to the highest possible - attack emergency," Attal wrote on X.

France's terror alert system has three levels, and the highest level is activated in the wake of an attack in France or abroad or when a threat of one is considered to be imminent. According to Reuters, it allows for exceptional security measures such as stepped-up patrols by armed forces in public places like train stations, airports and religious sites.

137 people were killed and 182 injured in the attack in Crocus Citi Hall in Moscow Region on March 22. According to Russian authorities, 11 people have been detained, including the four suspected gunmen who are citizens of the Republic of Tajikistan living in Russia.
