Turkish court rules guilty for Selina Dogan’s abuser, but doesn’t sentence
YEREVAN, APRIL 28, ARMENPRESS. A Turkish Court ruled to drop charges against a man who had verbally abused the ethnic Armenian lawmaker of Turkey Selina Dogan, Agos reported.
Ibrahim Kaplan, a local of Turkey’s Manisa city, wrote in Dogan’s Facebook page – “You are a [expletive], you are making Armenians the successors to Byzantines. You think the grandchildren of the Byzantines are alive, and the grandchildren of Sultan Fatih are dead? [Expletive]”
The court ruled the man’s remarks are offensive, however it didn’t sentence him. The court said two months after the abusive remarks, Dogan herself made a tweet where she offended the state for no reason.
“The court which obeys the authorities obviously supports hate speech by this kind of ruling”, she said.
