There is no decision, there are discussions: Armenian FM on possibility of deployment of CSTO
observers

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 18, ARMENPRESS. The issue of sending an observer mission of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) to Armenia could be discussed only during the CSTO Council session. At this moment there is no decision, there are discussions, Foreign Minister of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan said at a press conference today.

One of the reporters recalled the recent statement of the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov that CSTO is ready to send observers to Armenia, but it requires the decision of the CSTO Council.

In response FM Mirzoyan said that Armenia has applied to the CSTO, which it is a member of, and a decision has been made at the organization to send a fact-finding mission at first.

“These officials have arrived and have prepared a report based on their records, which has been presented to all member states. The Secretariat is currently circulating a draft decision based on that report. Through verbal discussions we have tried to understand when the session of the supreme body, the Council, could take place where the leaders of the countries can discuss sending a new observer mission. We are at this stage now, there is no decision, there are discussions, and the session of the Council must take place. The political assessment of the situation, to be made by our ally countries, is very important for us. We firstly need to understand to what extent the organization knows the situation that exists, and it is an aggression against Armenia and an incursion into Armenia’s sovereign territory”, she said.
